Laptop Computer Initiative
....From the Desk of Terry Allen, Superintendent
June 24, 2009
I hope that all of our parents and students are having a restful and enjoyable summer. Behind the scenes, custodians are busy at the campuses cleaning, stripping, and re-waxing floors for the beginning of another school year. Maintenance staff is in the middle of trying to keep up with fast growing grass and preparing transportation vehicles for another year. With the fast approaching new school year, we are still trying to finalize this school year with summer school and continuing education for our teachers. In the next few weeks we will have a crew of technicians in remodeling the sound and lighting equipment in the auditorium. Our plans are to replace the stage lighting and sound equipment with more modern, up to date equipment that will be more stable and enhance the activities that utilize the stage and auditorium. Also, a video system including a large drop down screen and overhead LCD projection equipment will be added allowing us to use more visuals in all aspects of instruction and training.
This brings me to one of our
more exciting events that will take place, the roll out of the
laptop computers to the junior high and senior high students. A
laptop computer will be assigned to every 7th through 12th grader
to use 24/7. Prior to the roll out, will be an orientation for
parents/guardians of our students. We would ask that you select one
of the time schedules listed at the end of this article to be
present at the high school auditorium for an orientation to the
laptop program. At that time you will hear the presentation and be
asked to sign several forms included in the laptop initiative.
During the same meeting, you will be asked to pay the $40
technology fee. It is important for you to attend one of these
meetings, sign the forms, and pay the technology fee. If this is
not completed, your student will not receive a laptop computer this
next school year. The date scheduled for the roll out to the
students is August 31st at 10:00 a.m. During the roll out, we will
have a number of people in the audience from the Apple Corporation
and Region Service Center. An invitation will also been extended to
local dignitaries and legislative representatives to be a part of
this exciting time for our students and Quanah ISD. The scheduled
times for the parent/guardian orientation will be:
Thursday, August 13th at 6:00 p.m.
Friday, August 14th at 9:00 a.m.
Monday, August 17th at 6:00 p.m.
Tuesday, August 18th at 6:00 p.m.
Please select one of these times and join us at the high school
auditorium. For more information, check out the Quanah ISD website
at www.qisd.net. Click on the “read more” talking about the
technology podcast and then click on the word “HERE” to view. John
White, technology specialist, and I try to answer several questions
asked of us about the program. If you have other questions, please
forward those to either John at john.white@qisd.net or me at
terry.allen@qisd.net and we will try to answer those on future
podcast. We look forward to partnering with you in this exciting
move into the 21st Century.
