Financial Resources:
Don’t forget to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Go online to www.fafsa.ed.gov. In order to sign the FAFSA electronically, you will need a Personal Identification Number (PIN). Go to www.pin.ed.gov to apply for a PIN.

Deadlines for colleges to receive the FAFSA:
Angelo State University – April 1st
Baylor – March 1st
Midwestern State University – May 1st
Texas A&M University– March 31st
Tarleton State University – April 1
Texas Tech University – no deadline
University of Texas at Austin – March 31st
University of Texas Dallas – March 31st
University of North Texas – April 15th
West Texas A& M University – April 15th

Another good resource is the TEXAS FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION CENTER.
The Texas Financial Aid Center can assist with any type of financial aid question, whether it is a question about the FAFSA, the Texas Grant or federal education tax credits. The center takes calls Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. until 6:50 p.m. and Friday from 7 a.m. until 4:50 p.m. Spanish speaking representatives are available. The number is toll free – 1-877-782-7322.

Scholarships for March, April and May

Golden Spread Electric Cooperative:
This is a scholarship for students and their families who are members of a rural electric cooperative (South Plains Electric Cooperative for this area). The scholarship is for $1,200. Applications are in the counselor’s office. Deadline date is March 15.

Texas Association of Trial Lawyers:
You must submit the following: the completed application, transcript and report card, two reference letters on letterhead; essay titled “Why the jury is the cornerstone of the civil justice system”, list of work/school activities, and a personal statement. The applicant’s state senator must be on the application or it will be disqualified. The scholarship awards $1,000. The application can be downloaded from www.ttla.com. The application must be postmarked no later than March 20th.

Slough Foundation Scholarship:
You must have at least a 3.0 GPA, demonstrate a need through the FASFA results, 300 word essay, and official high school transcript. The award is up to $5000 a year for up to five years. Postmark by March 29th.

Texas Rural Electric Women’s Association
This is for current TREWA members and their children. People interested in joining may complete an application and return it with a membership fee of $20. Applications for the scholarship are in the counselor’s office. Grades will not be a deciding factor for this scholarship. Recipients may attend any accredited college, university, junior community college, trade/technical school, or business school of their choice. The judging of these possible scholarship awards are based on qualities, leadership qualities, energy awareness, essay content, and general knowledge of the rural electric program. What is needed to apply for this scholarship: a TREWA scholarship application and one copy, three letters of recommendation, current photo, and a current cooperative electric bill. Application must be postmarked by midnight, April 1st to be judged. There are 8 – $1000 scholarships given.

Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship:

Delta Kappa Gamma Society awards $250.00 scholarship to one high school senior who is capable of outstanding leadership abilities and who plans to pursue a future as an educator. The student must submit a current transcript, and a recent photo and two letters of recommendation. The applications are in the counselor’s office. The application must be returned to the counselor’s office by April 1st.

Vernon College Scholastic Scholarships:
These scholarships are awarded to students who have at least a 3.0 grade point average. Scholarship amounts vary. The scholarships are in the counselor’s office. The deadline is April 1st.

Clarendon College Scholarship:
Students must complete the application and attach a high school transcript. The applications are in the counselor’s office. Students must maintain 12 credit hours and a 2.8 to 4.0 to continue to receive the scholarship. The deadline is April 1st. 

Don’t Mess with Texas Scholarship:
One $3000.00 scholarship and two -$1000.00 are awarded. The applicant must plan to attend a 2 or 4-year college, write a 300 to 350-word essay on a specific litter problem in your school or community and the action you took to address it. Be sure you clearly state the problem and explain what creative and sustainable solution you developed. Two letters of recommendation are required with the application. The applications are in the counselor’s office or online at www.DontMessWithTexas.org. The deadline is April 4.

Vernon College Employees Forum
One $500.00 scholarship is given to a student attending Vernon College and majoring in Accounting, Business Management, Computer and Information Sciences, Office Technology or Health Information Technology. Applications are in the counselor’s office. The deadline is April 15.

Wichita Falls Teachers Federal Credit Union
Five $1000.00 scholarships will be given to area seniors who are members of the Wichita Falls Teachers Federal Credit Union. Applicants must fill out an application, submit an official transcript in a sealed envelope and attach two letters of recommendation; as well as an essay stating “What education means to me and what it will mean in the future.” Applications are in the counselor’s office.  Deadline is April 28.

Hardeman County Farm Bureau:

Applicants must be Hardeman County High School Senior whose families are members of the Hardeman County Farm Bureau. The scholarship is $1000.00 paid $500.00 a semester. The student’s GPA must be 2.0 to get the money for the 2nd semester. A transcript and a one-page essay stating “Why I feel I am deserving of the Hardeman County Farm Bureau Scholarship” are required. The scholarship application must be returned to the Hardeman County Farm Bureau by May 1st.

Trident Insurance:

Trident Insurance awards four $1000.00 scholarships to Texas seniors who attend a school district that has membership with the Texas Association of Public Educators. Applications are in the counselor’s office. Deadline is May 1.

Childress Regional Medical Center:
One $1000.00 scholarship is given to an area senior who is pursuing a career in a healthcare profession and demonstrates financial need and has an above average academic record. Applications are in the counselor’s office. Application must be receive by May 12.

The Texas Interscholastic League Foundation:
This scholarship awards $500, $1000, $2,500 and $4000 for a one year only scholarship and $3,000 a year for 2 year scholarships. The application must be submitted between April 1st and May 6th . Applications are in the counselor’s office.

All TILF scholarship applicants must meet and complete these five requirements:
1. Compete in one of the State Level UIL Academic State Meet Contest.
2. Submit a high school transcript including ACT scores, verified rank in graduating class and size of graduating class.
3. Submit completed application and parent’s IRS 1040 form page 1 and 2 only.
4. Graduate from high school
5. Attend an accredited college or university in Texas and take 12 hours and maintain a minimum of 2.5grade point average.

Opportunities in the future


Nursing Foundation:

The Good Samaritan Foundation awards 600 scholarships in amounts that vary to students majoring in nursing. Attendance to a Texas university, and the completion of one year as a nursing major are required. For more information:

Wichita Falls Joint Electrical Apprentice Training Committee:

This committee is taking applications for electrical apprenticeship programs. The basic requirements are a high school diploma, completion of 1 year of Algebra, students must be 17 to apply and 18 years old at time of indenture, and proof of current driver’s license.  Applications are taken the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at the IBEW Local union 681 office at 6111 Jacksboro Hwy. from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Selections into the program are determined by vacancies and workload. If selected into the apprenticeship program, each applicant will be required to take a drug test.
